The Italian Job (2003)

PG-13 111 min. Starring Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron, Jason Statham, Edward Norton, Seth Green, Mos Def and Donald Sutherland.

This movie is not a remake, but it is loosely based on the 1969 movie of the same name.

Though it is not a remake, it still retains many of the same features of the original movie such as a death at the beginning of the movie, mob involvement, gold and three Mini Coopers that drive on sidewalks, through buildings and tunnels.

This movie takes place in the U.S., as opposed to Italy. But in this movie, The Italian Job (original movie) is mentioned by one of the characters when they are planning their heist.

Lyle, the computer genius in the movie, talks frequently about inventing Napster. However, his college room mate stole it while he was taking a nap. There is a cameo in the movie, where in a flashback scene, shows Shawn Fanning, inventor of Napster, stealing the program disk from his roommate's computer.

This is an entertaining movie. The characters are well developed. It pays homage to the classic 1969 "The Italian Job" movie. It has a good car chase scene as an important aspect of the movie.

I highly suggest you watch the original movie before watching this version.
